Synthetron conference interaction

Large scale active participation thanks to Synthetron in academic conference

During  the national lecturer’s conference “dag van de docent” at Leuven university, Belgium, Synthetron interaction was key for the success of  one of the modules.

How it worked? Participants reflected for the first 40 minutes in a synthetron social brainstorm, interactively on their experience and views on the topic of “student self evaluation”. They (around 50 in total) discussed from a pc anonymously and written, all as peers active in real time, under the guidance of the moderator. During the discussion each participant contributed his or her views and scored the ideas presented to him or her. The scoring mechanism and evolutionary discussion process created the instant collaborative synthesis (the list of so called “synthetrons”, ideas that obtained significant support from participants). The results were instantly reported and commented by the module leader comparing them per topic to  academic research & theory. Discrepancies with respect to existing research results and prevailing academic theory were picked up for further commented and debate. A very smooth way of involving all participants simultaneously, and helping .
